Gender issues in trauma-informed physical therapy

Read this very interesting editorial by LM Walton in the Journal of Women's and Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (open access) DOI: 10.1097/JWH.0000000000000299

"Trauma-informed care is an essential component to the healing process for many patients who seek physical therapy services. Multifaceted levels of trauma emphasize the importance of integrating trauma-informed care to improve health outcomes, health-related quality of life, and provide the best evidence-based physical therapy practice...Gender-based violence (GBV), inside and outside of the home (meso-level and micro-level), produces another layer of trauma for women...Despite the high prevalence of GBV among women patients, only 22% of health care providers routinely screen for GBV across all health care settings."
